It was my first ever time as an RAF Cranwell Wedding Photographer so I was really looking forward to Sam and Ben’s wedding! Sam and Ben both work for the RAF and so having their wedding at RAF Cranwell was the obvious choice – a lovely intimate church for their ceremony, an amazing college with stunning steps and pillars for the group shots and beautiful mess hall for their reception. What more could they ask for?
I joined Sam and her bridesmaids in the officer’s mess for the bridal prep photography. They were all in good spirits and at this point I must add that Sam was one of the smiliest brides I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing.
Whilst Sam was getting ready I quickly nipped over to catch up with Ben and the boys who were all dressed in their full uniforms and enjoying a bottle of beer on what was a very warm and sunny day in May.
Once I’d got all the photos I needed, I headed over to the church, and I learnt something new that a vicar or priest in the military is called a “Padre” and he was one of the nicest officials I’ve ever met.
The wedding ceremony was great with lots of nerves (apparently) which were well hidden by plenty more smiling. After that I headed over to the military college and how lucky I was to shoot in front of such a beautiful building. You can see an example of the group wedding photography at RAF Cranwell.
Everyone was in high spirits for the reception and wedding breakfast and I also learnt something else – if you are in uniform, you are not allowed to go to the toilet until the groom gives a toilet break! The forfeit is a bottle of port and he ended up with quite a few!
The partying and dancing went on into the night and I hope to do many more weddings at RAF Cranwell because as a first experience in a military wedding it was a cracker! Congratulations Sam and Ben!
As always, please do leave a message at the bottom of these photos – I’d love to hear your thoughts.
