Susan and Luke got married in their beautiful home village of South Kyme in Lincolnshire, with the ceremony held at the fantastic village church – the perfect place in Lincolnshire for some stunning wedding photography. I have known Luke the groom for many many years and consider both him and Susan as good friends. So of course I was honoured and excited about being their wedding photographer!
The day started with a catch up with the bride and bridesmaids who had taken over the local pub to get ready. At once they all made me feel completely at ease and there was not one single shy one amongst them – exactly what I expected really! I could tell they were all really supportive and excited for their best friend who was getting married imminently. After I’d heard about ten renditions of “Oh When The Saints”, it was time to leave for the ceremony.
I’d never been to South Kyme church before and can completely understand why they would want to be married there – it was a beautifully quaint church set back from the main road with it’s own large grounds. Luke was waiting at the church with his brother Ben – the best man and they were both in full spirits, Luke was obviously very happy.
The ceremony itself was fantastic with lots of laughter and a good handful of tears from various people – always very touching to see. There was an amazing reading which was written and read by our good friend Holly, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard an original reading at a wedding before so it was a very nice touch.
The weather up until this point had been perfect and was playing ball very nicely, but just as they were saying their vows the heavens open and it was as if all the rain fell on the church at once. Thankfully we were all safe and dry inside but unfortunately this meant shooting the group shots in the church – but no matter, we got away with it. Then, very luckily, the rain stopped again as it was time to leave for the reception which meant I got the chance to take some lovely portraits of the happy couple.
They had their reception is the village hall and it had been decorated beautifully with a gorgeous array of various flowers (don’t ask me what they were) very kindly set out by Luke’s uncle. Every female guest had a cocktail ready and waiting for them, and every male guest had a “beer token” to get themselves a free pint of Oli’s home brew. It was obvious that this wedding had been well thought out.
Because I was also officially a guest, it meant I got to enjoy the celebrations, eat the lovely food and really appreciate what was perhaps one of the best best-man’s speech I’ve ever seen.
Everyone, including myself, ate, drank and danced the night away – it truly was a thoroughly enjoyable day. Congratulations Susan and Luke I really do wish you all the best in your lives together!
Here are a few of my favourites from the day and of course I’d love to hear what you think, so please feel free to leave a message at the bottom of this page.
